ROYAL ENGLISH OPERA.

Bale's, grand romantic opera, "Satanella," was performed last night to the largest house of the season. Want of spuce forbids us to give an extended criticism, which the rare merit of the opera, and the really more than excellent manner m which it was performed, richly deserve. The character of Satunella, besides being replete with tho loveliest music, afforda scope for dramatic talent of the highest order, and Miss May achieved a genuine triumph. She sang superbly, and threw into her acting; a passionate energy and fervour which, with her statuesque poaes, especially in the last scene of the opora, f.urly carried the house by storm. Miss May was excellently supported by \lr. Rainforil as Anmanea, Mr. H .11am as Sir Kunert, Miss E. A. Lambert as Lelia, and the' company generally. The scenery and mechanical effects weie striking and picturesque, and the dresses costly and elegant. This evening Balfe'a opera, " Th*> Hose of Castile," will be performed.
