A new ichooner named the Albatross has been launched at Wangapoa which has been built to the order of Mr. C. Harris, and constructed of the beat description of t'mber. The Teasel h«« been designed and obiefly conttructed by Mr. James Barbour, the well known builder of the Fannie, cutter, one of the very fattest of her class belonging to Auckland. The dimensions of the Albatross are m follow : length of keel, 7-lft.; overall measuiement, 86ft.; beam, 20ft. 3m.; and depth of hold, 7ft 9in.; her tonnage i registered) will be about 75tons. She will le able to cirry over GO,CD()ft. of timber on a draught of 7ft. 8in. She is beautifully modelled and has very fine round lines, and from her appearance she ought to att iin a T»ry high rato of speed. Her rig is that of a fore and aft schooner and has a large •pread of canvas, with large extra square sails if necessary. The steering gear is noticeably an improvement on that supplied to most of the finest small vessels here, being both simple and effective. Another improvement is that the masts are wedged with indiarubber which causes less wear and tear, and also adds to her nailing capabilities.
