VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The Sir George trrcy cadets are co paraae for monthly inspection thia evening, at 7 30 o'clock, in the drill shed. It is expected that every member will be present. The Navalj Brigade, whose monthly inspection took place on Friday last, deserves speeial commendation, both for the regular attendance of the members at drill, the manner in which they have adhered to their patriotio principles in spite of financial difficulties, and the efficient way in which their drill is always conducted. This Ia9t was notably the case on Fiiday, when they were put through their company drill by Lieutenants Chapman and Bartlett, in tho absenco of the commanding officer. After parade several new membtis •nero sworn in, raiding tho strength of the company to the original number of 80, and making amends for the loss of 12 who have joined tho Waikato Military Road party. The Sir George Grey Cadet Corps returned at an early hour on Saturday morning from the Kawau, where they have been encampod during the last two week«, without any mi3hap, and all in good health. They appear to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, aud tbeir time was judiciously devoted between dull aud amusemeut, tho latter taking the chief plaoe, although the former has not been neglected. SirGeorge treated the corps with the greatest kiudueaa, and gave them permifcsion to try their skill at the kangaroos, numbers of which they succeeded in shooting, and, as proof their skill, have brought to town several skins. Sir George Grey was highly pleased at thtirmilitary ptrfoimances, all of which wou fioin him expressions of a}piobation, aud we presume that tho luspectlug officur, Major Cooper, Mill observe a consuloiable improvement in then drill at their next inspection. Their paieuta will be glad to ki\)W that (with two or three exceptions ) the conduct of the boys was excellent, and before leaving Sir George placed in the hands of Captain Taylor the letter of which tlie following 18 a copy: — "Kawau.Jauuary 9tb, 187-i. My clear Captain Taylor. 1 ouoo moie wish yourself, the officers and cadets of the Corps a good byo. Again it has been a great pleasure to me, to find them in drill, in discipline, aud in all other respects, a credit to you, to tbemselTes and to Auckland. Having begun so well in youth, I hope their success may be great in after life, aud that the> may heieafter think with pleasure of the days we have i>ent together at Kawan. I also wish jouiself every success, and trust you miy re p the rowaid you merit for the care you havebestowed on your company of cadets. Very truly yours (Bigned) Q. Grey."
