THE KAIPARA RAIL WAY.

To the Editor : Sir, — My attention has been called to two letters in your paper relative to wh.ife I stated reg.uding tho oauso of tho non-completion of the Kaipara Railway. '1 ho lottery boar the signatures of J. Stowart, C.K., and Mr. \V. Kirby . In reply to Mr. Kirby, I bug to assuie him that, from whatover quarter he obtained tho information upon which he founded his letter, it is wrong, and that I am ready and willing to ahotv him that his letter is inoBt unjustifiable, and that I trust he will acknowledge such to bo tho case when he knows the truth, which bo can know by applyiug to mo. Iu reply to Mr. Stewart's lengthy epistle, I am sorry to have to publicly assert that Mr. Stowart ought to know that much of what he has written is inaccurate ; and, further, that tho uolo cauio of tho railB not having been heio nearly a year ago arose from the pattoin of "the Stewart rail," invented by him and Bent to the Agent-General, being pronounced in London as tindoairablo to bo manufactured ; and, after consultation between the Agent(Jeueral and practical engineers nominated by them and my agent, it was resolved to rofur tho whole order for rails and engines, &c, back to the colony. Had tho ordinary pattern of »ail been sent, or even the fancy ono attached to the contract, tho rails would have boen supplied ; but after Mr. Stewart had invented a curious pattern attached to tho contract, he invented a rather more impracticable pattern, and sent it to the Agent(icneral. — L *ni, ic, J. S. Macfvriank.
