REMUERA MEETING.

To the Editor : Sir, — Permit rue a remark on the "Hecognition" serviceafc the Remuera "House" of an Independent Church, celebrated last evening, and on your reporter's account of the same. Unexpectedly, after a stormy morning we had a brilliant and most beautiful night. Ilmal llemuera looked romantic. I mean that, unexpectedly, after a dirty noon and threatening weather later, there was a very large attendance. That which I now particularly wish to note ia, that a thing was advanced at said meeting which in New Zealand was new and onginal, and therefore ought not to be omitted. The report only gave the steieotyped hackneyed saying that the Gospel is supeiior to any nameable ecclesiastical organisation or polity — a mere truism. But TVarlow Davies said that the Congregational Independents in common with, all the other evangelical sections of the Christians appeal to the Holy Scriptures for their theology ; and, ill addition, distinctively, and over and above, Congregational Independents appeal also to the same Scriptures only for their principles of Church government. He relatively quoted Hooker of the Episcopalians, and alluded to Methodistic Connexionalism, &c. I candidly own that, although presuming I had seen some such thoughts before, I was arrested by those remarks as something new for a wonder. The given particular distinction deserves record. — I am, &c, W. E. Sadler.
