CENTRAL BOARD OF EDUCATION.
A meeting of the Central Board of Education was held yesterday, when the follow ing gentlemen were present : — Messrs. May (chairman), Lusk, Hurst, Clark, and Dr. Nicholson. The following business was disposed of :—: — Waiptj (Upper District). — Application for payment of building grant. — £20 sanctioned. Puhoi. — Application for grant towards school buildings. — Additional grant of £15 sanctioned for buildings approved of on inspection. Whangauei Heads. — Application for payment of present building grant. — £20 granted. William street School. — Application for amount granted. — Agreed to. Okaihatt. — Application for balance of building grant. — Agreed to. Harrowsfield ( Pukekohe). — Application for assistance to school ab this place postponed. Tuakatt. — A request was made from this district that the painting of the teacher's house be not insisted on for the present, on condition that the committee build an additional room. — Agreed to. Queen's Redoubt. — A request was received that the appointment of Mr. McAdams aa teacher in this districb be confirmed. — Agreed to. Okaihatt. — .Application that the payment of £1 lla. 9d., due to the Board for books, may not be insisted on, and that a farther grant of a map of the United Kingdom and some arithmetical works be made. — Agreed to. Orurtt (Mangonui). — Application for a grant towards a school proposed to be established. — Ordered to stand over for further information. Maketu. — Request that the appointment of Mr. Nott as teacher be sanctioned. — Agreed to. Kaio. — Application for a grant of books and maps.— £5 worth granted. Warkworth. — Application for an additional grant of £7 10s. — Agreed to. Mount Albert. — Letter respecting the payment of insurance on the school. — Board declined to recognise the claim. Port Albert. — Letter in respect to the school site and building grant. — Board agreed to the site chosen at a public meeting of the inhabitants, but would not comply with the request that the site should be vested in local trustees. School Reserves. — An application was received for a lease of a school reserve at Pakuranga, but it was agreed that it should 1)8 offered for lease with other reserves agreed to be leased last meeting. Also, a tender for lot 74 at Remuera, which was not accepted, it being decided to put up the lot -with, the others. DEVONPORT. — Letter received from the teacher of this district for aa increase of grant to teacher.— £ls agreed to. DkUili Instructor. — An application for a drill instructor for Auckland College was refused. Alexandra. — An application for an increased- graut-to an assistant teacher was ordered to stand over. Obmond. —An application for aid towards the establishment' of a school in this ,diatrict was ordered to stand -over for further information, If t — . - - - t - > Cambridge.*— Application was made for a graqt in aid of fencing the school reserve! — B6ard declined to accede to the request. • A jaumber*of - j cheques' were signed; after • which the Board Kdjqurne^V, , -,-
