OHAUPO : THE CATTLE SALE.

Ok the 2nd our sale took place : attendance fair, stook realising satisfactory prices ; but the supply being quite unequal to the demand, numerous buyers had to depart with unsatisfied requirements, from the fact of anything of a good quality fetching high prices. Holders are looking for extreme rates, and from the favourable nature of the season we may expect a great demand for grazing stock, which are at present scarce. Dairy stosk are about equal to requirements, but there is considerable room for improvement as regards quality, and though our breedei-3 have made considerable progress the mania for numbers has not quite died out ; but our leading settlers are now paying more attention to quality, as it is more likely to be a pecuniary success. — \nother militia inspection of arms of an obsolete pattern, and which are now becoming almost useless by neglect and inaction, has taken place, and the impression seems to be well grounded that these musters are unnecessary, and an expression of public opinion on the desirability of disbanding the militia might have some effect at the present time, a3 the peace policy, which was so successfully inaugurated by the late Ministry, if faithfully carried out will free vs from all panics. There will be great outery — in fact, wailing" and lamentation from our numerous Highway Boards — if they are deprived of the vote in aid, as most of the districts can show the value and assistance of the last by their numerous improvements ; and the outer districts, having so many new roads to open, require some special consideration. — [Correspondent.]
