i Mr. S. Jones offered at his mart to-day teas, &c, per 'Hokitika,' from Melbourne. There Was a good afctendaaoe and excellent competition. The following quotations (in bond) were realised :— B9 chests fine congou £*• So',S 0 ',! 1 * 16 * d pet lh.; fine congou tea, No. 61, 15dper lb. ; 130 half chests, No. 43, 17Jd ; Brandon's candles, lid per lb. j paraffin candles, llsd perlb.j E*glb pickles, 10s 9d per dozen ; Crown vinegar (Burnetts), 2s 6d per gallon j bulk castor oil, 4s 6d per gallon ; currants, 4Jdper lb.; crushed loaf sugar, 6d per lb. ; salad oil, 7a per dozen $ household soap, 188 per owt. Messrs. H. S. Meyers and Co. held a sale of fruit, jams, &c, at their mart to-day. There wob a large attendance of the trade, and the bidding was spirited. Tne following were the prices realised :—Jams, in trade parcels onto lib. tins, 8s per dozen j jars, 7d to 7|d per lb.; onions, £13 per ton ; apples, 2sd to 4d per lb., according to quality ; seed oats, 2s lid to 3a per bushel. Bugs, withdrawn. THE SHAREMARKET. Mr. Saunders reports :—" Sales this day — Inverness, 15a, closing sellers 15s: Long Drive, £11, closing buyers ; Caledonian, £36, £37, closing .buyers £ 37 ; Thames, £6 10a, sellers £6 12s Gd. Central, buyers £1 2s; Albion, buyers £6 10s ; Bismarck, sellers £3 ; Nonpareil inquired for, £1 155." Mr. J. M. Lenaox reports :— " The share market was rather active iv the morninjr, but became very dull at the close. My sales comprise— Caledonian, £39, £38 10s, £38, £37, £36 ; Thames, £6 ss, £6 10s, £G 12s 6d ; Bank of New Zealand, £19 10s ; Moanataiari, £5 10s. Cure shares were sold at 37s 61 There were buyers of Caledonian at £36 10s ; Thames, £6 10s ; Bismarck, £2 15s. Sellers at a slight advance upon these quotations." Mr. J. Hendry reports : — "The sharemarket has been very quiet to-day. Caledonians have receded to £37. The market closed with buyers £36 10s, sellers £37. Sales— Caledonian, £36, £37, £36 10s, £38 10a, £38 ; Cures, 39s ; Thames, £6 7s 6d ; Moanataiari, £5 155."
