BISHOP CROKE IN ATTSTBALL.
Our readers are aware that Bishop Oroke has for some time keen on a visit to Australia. Whilst there he was presented with an address by the members of the Hibernian Australasian Catholics, in answer to which his Lordship expressed his heartfelt, thanks for. the kind expression of. feeling contained in the address, and, for the marked respect shown him. He assured those present that it would be to him one of the most pleasing reminiscences of his 'visit to Australia. Referring to what he had done for the society, he said that, now thatiU principles were fully known to him, it would receive nraoh more* attention at his. hands. ' When he arrived in New Zealand great caution was necessary in' order that he might not lend his countenance to anything to which he was a stranger, and he had consequently refrained from identifying himself with the society until fully assured that it was really what it .professed t© r be* and not a guise "for'politi^at/oif pother 'objectionable purposes.,; £ Swe Kik'a'rrivjil in. In eloquent terms allusion was made to the expression of devotion on the part of the society towards the Holy Father in the present position of his Holiness ; and, in conclusion, his Lordship fervently impressed upon the members the absolute necessity of abstaining as a society from all intervention in political matters, otherwise the support of the Church «ould not be extended to them. His Lordship brought his address to a close by wishing the members every success. Whilst. Dr. Croke was speaking, his utterances were frequently applauded. On the motion of Brother F. H. Byrne, C.S., seconded by Brother P. Murphy, treasurer St. Francis's Branch, * vote of thanks was accorded to Dr. Croke, both payiug a high tribute of respect and admiration to his Lordship.
