PORT ALBERT LITERARY CLUB.
The November meeting of the above society was held at Mr. Becrof fa'a on Monday last The president being absent, Mr. G. T. Hartnellwas called on to preside. Dr. F. Gr. Dalton gave a lecture on "Hunger and Thirst," which was listened to with interest, ajul was followed by tbe usual discussion. At the December meeting tho essay is to bo on "Equality." The annual meeting of the club will come off some few days before Christmas.— Tbe meeting of the Port Albert Association took place at Mr. C. Judds on Wednesday last, Mr. W. Hefford, president, in the chair. After routine buaincss, Mr. G. Plummer brought up the report of the Agricultural Exhibition Committee, appointed at previous meeting. The report contained a list of the kinds of farm stock, agricultural pro-, dlice, Ac, to which prizes will be awarded. ihe following resolution Avas unanimously adopted: "That the Annual ettlement Meeting of 1872 be held the second Wednesday itt March, accompanied with an exhibition of stock, agricultural, and dairy produce, and preceded by a ploughing-match." Mr. J. Legge then gave a somewhat discursive address on "What will and what will not pay, I ,' He considered that early to bed and early to rise, the slitch-in-time principle, applied to repairing fencing, thinking well before doiug a thing, or not setting about a piece of work hurriedly, to avoid to> great anxiety to get to the top of the ladder, to obtain a good piece of land, and till a small portion carefully and thoroughly, rather than a large piece ill, would pay ; and that doing things the reverse of this, and also neglecting to exterminate patches of docks, sorrel, &c , on their first appearance, neg- j lecting thoroughly working the land in dry weather, and putting up bad fences, would j not pay. The customary discussion ensued. — At the December meeting of the Association a paper will be read " On Bush Wages."
