A.v ICxmviiVK Project. — A plan has been Eropnsed for trausfei ring steamers and ships y railway over laud from one body of water toanothei, which has been endorsed as practicable by \V. L Ilaiihoom, United States Naval Constructor, aud others. The plan is to employ an oidinaiy floating-dock to laisethe vessel aud place it on a ciadle bed which stands on tracks. When the water is pumped out of the dock, and the v hole is lifted to the proper grade, a locomotive is attached and tha whole is hauled away, like any other load. The road over which this transportation is to take place is to be from foity to sixty feet wide, with eight or more rails, the roadbed to be capable ok sustaining any weight. Mr. Hausoom thinks such a railway, with clocks, &c, thirty-seven miles across the Isthmus of Panama, ceuld he built foi $22,500,000; while actual, with the accessary locks and basins, would cost eight times th.it sum, or more. At liist sight such a pioject seems visionary, but more improbable achicvetnonts luve been acoouiplisliod— t'io electric telegraph, for instance.
