KAWAKAWA COAL MINES: FATAL ACCIDENT.
An accident; occurred at this colliery on the 25th September, causing the death of a miner, named Allan fraulds, aged 53 years. Ifc appears that the deceased and Bis mate had knocked oat their props, in readiness to drop the top coals, when a large mass gave way and fell upon the unfortunate roan, doubling 1 him up uuder it and crushing him severely. He was quickly extricated from the coals, and conveyed home, where he was promptly attended by Dr. Oliver, but he gradually sank, and died on the 28th. The deceased had long suffered from heart diaease and asthma, and if he had had good health previous to the accident it probably, would not have resulted in bis death.— [Correspondent,]
