HAMILTON WES T: THE NEW HIGHWAY DISTRICT.
A MEETING for the election of trustees, &c, for the new highway district of Hamilton West took place on Monday evening, 14th instant, in the Court-house. Mr. T. H. Morris, the chairman appointed by the Superintendent, occupied the chair. It was unanimously agreed, on the motion of Mr. Jones, that the rate be struck on the value to sell. Proposed by Mr. Jones that the rate be 2d. per pound, seconded by Mr. Kinsjaly, and carried nem. con. Messrs. Jones and Smith were appointed scrutineers. MessrB. Edgecombe, Farrell, Tanfield, Young, Hunter, Morris, Knox, Beere, Davis, Webb, Martin, Kingsly, Calder, Woods, Smith, Ripley, and Joseph were proposed as trustees. The first five mentioned were elected. Messrs. Smith, Morris, Knox, and Clarke were proposed as auditors. Mr. Smith and Morris were appointed; the others refused to it*nd. The new trustees met immediately after, and elected Mr. Thomas Farrell chairman, Mr. Samuel Tanfield treasurer, and Mr. Edgecombe secretary pro tem. The secretary was instructed to write to the chairman of the Hamilton Board for all papers and documents relative to the ferry service, and the public pound.
