The U.5.,N.Z., and A. mail p.s. Nevada arrived in harbour on Saturday morning last from Southern ports. The following is Captain Blethen's report of the passage :— Left "Port Chalmers 12.50 p.m., 15th May; arrived at Lyttelton 8 a.m., 16bh May ; left Lyttelton 4.20 p.m.; 16th May ; arrived at Wellington 9.40 a.m., 17th ; left Wellington 4.30 p.m., 17th; arrived off Napier 11.45 a.m., 18th ; left Napier 12.30 p.m., 18th ; arrived off Tiritiri at 1.15 a.m. on the 20th. Slowed-down engines to wait for daylight, arriving off the wharf at 6.30 a.m. Strong head winds from Napier. We are indebted to Mr. P. Millar for our files. The mail steamer Nevada took her departure for Honolulu with the English mail and passengers punctually at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Up to the hour of her sailing she was visited .by large crowds of visitors, and two of the small steamers followed the Nevada some distance down the harbour. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company's s.a. Wellington, A. Kennedy, commander, arrived from Southern ports on. the 20th instant at 6 a.m. Captain Kennedy reporta having left Otago on the 12th, Canterbury on the 15th, and Wellington on the 17th at 2.45 p.m.; arrived in Hawke's Bay on the 18th at 7.40 a.m., performing the pasaage of 210 miles in less than 17 hours ; landed and received passengers and cargo, and left for Auckland at noon ; abreast of the East Cape at 1.45 a.m. on the 19th, experiencing light squally weather from W.S.W.; from thence till making Tiritiri had fresh gales from S.W., accompanied with a. chopping sea throughout. Paßsed a steamer steering to the southward about 10 p.m. on the 18th, when abreast of Tolago Bay (supposed to be the Star of the South). We are indebted to Mr. Wheeler, the purser, The s.s. Wellington, for Southern ports, is announced to leave on Wednesday next, for our files of Southern papers. The s.s. Hero, from Sydney, is due here on Wednesday next. The ship Caduceus sails for London to-day. Passengers will be conveyed on board at noon to-day by the steamer Devonport. Whalers. — The following whalers were lying at Russell on May 19 :— Niger, barque, Captain Grant; Cleone, barque, Captain Luc© ; Napoleon, barque, Captain Puller, all of New Bedford. , The ship Wild Daok sailed from Timaru for this port on May 10th, with the following I cargo :-883 sacks (3,640 bushels) wheat, 1,095 sacks (4,113 bushels) wheat, 411 sacks (1,644 bushels) oats. The schooner Jane Anderson left Dunedin for this port via Oamaru on the 14th instant. The barque Joliba and schooner Cleopatra, hence, arrived at Lyttelton on the 7th. The brig Union beared at Lyttelton and sailed for this port on the 13th, with the following cargo:— l,39o bags wheat, 305 bags oats, 1 dog-cart. Passengers— Messrs. Blossom and Cooper.
