MINING NEWS. Grahamstown, Saturday.

Golden Crown. — The yield of gold for the past week is about the lowest I have had to record in connection with this mine, the melted weight being oaly lOloz. 14dwt. This fall-off ha* been caused by foul air, which has prevailed to such an extent in the mine as to cut off communication with the lower workings ; indeed last night the men were unable to get into the main level. Owing to this, the stuff put through the battery was mostly rubbish and lefuse, aud not much of that, 100 tons being the measuremenb. The rate— loz. per ton— is there • fore very good. Steps have been taken to clear the mine of gas by building a powerful fanner, which will be at work on Monday. Arrangements have also been made for the immediato opening out of the new lode, and a contract for a winze to be sunk on it from the upper to the lower level ha 3 been let, and is to be commenced out of hand. Una Company. — The return is not quite up to expectation, but is yet remarkably good— 3l2oz. being obtained out of 120 tons of stone, the most of it from the Loyalty lode. There will now be sufficient funds to pay off the liabilities of the mine, aud leave a balauce in favour.

City of Glasgow axd Biack Angel — Only Boz. 15dwt. retorted gold were obtained from the stuff crushed at Goodall's machine. Alburnia Company. — The cleaning up for the fortnight was finished yesterday, and this morning 1520z 19d\vt. of gold were sold, after being melted ai; tlic Bank of New Zealand. This return only represents about ten days' crushing, the batteries, owing to the leaking of tlie boiler, having been idle during the rest of the time.

Alt, Nations. - The inteiim cleaning up of the month was effected to to-d.iy, .and resulted in 900oz. of hardsqueezed amalgam. Ju>rcriON. — Specimens have accumulated during the last day or two, and there is now a, considerable number on hand. The mine gene) ally is looking very well.

Caledonian Company. — Another <?pe-cunen-ciushing is in pi ogress at the company's machine, and pi omihes quite as good a yield as the last one. This morning 1,0360/. of gold weie banked to the ciedit of the company, increasing the whole amount deposited to 2,2G40z. Some exceedingly lich stone was broken out this morning ; one or two of the pieces were nuggctb rather than specimens.

Kukanui i Company. — The usual fortnightly cleaving up to-day resulted in a return of 2910z. 7d\vt. melted gold. Tookky's Company — The pumps were stopped this evening, and I understand that they will not be set going again until an equitable draining airangcmenfc is come to with the neighbouring mines.— [Own Uoirespondent.] A J r~i AT ...1. CoROJrvxDEL, March 11. The crushing of about 140 tons from the Tokatea is still gmng on at tbc YVaikawau battciy, and theie will bs a general cleaning up this next week. About 301b. of amalgam will be retorted to-day, which is calculated to give not less than 'lOOoz. of gold. This, in addition to the -iOOo/, sent to the Bank last week, speaks well tor the continued richness of this claim.— The Eoyal Oak will have a ciushing of about 40 tons this week, with every prospect of a good yield.— The Harbour View has also a lot of promisinglooking fetone ready to oiu&h, as has also the Little and Good. — The NilDespeiandum battery is now engaged in crushing for the Conqueror, after which, a &mill lot fiom the Giant is to be operated upon. — The earthwoika, &c., for the tiamwayaie to be commenced at once, and to be hnhhed in a foi tmght.—[Own Conespondcnt. ]
