This matter occurred in a time of peace and quietness. While the Government have been diligently endeavouring to bring about peace, and have been continually mindful of this matter, and working towards the desired cud, they have been trampled upon by this murder. The Government is carefully investigating as to the origin of this crime. The word at this time is this : Let those murderers be delivered up that they may be tried according to law, that this evil may be carefully investigated, lest the many be puuished for the crimes of one individual, of two men or more. This is an explanation to you, to all the people that they may hear. If a new word come hither, it; will go forth to you also. Enough. — Wmm your losing friend, McLc/i IT."'
