ARRIVAL OF DR. CROKE.

On Saturday last a deputation— consisting of Messrs. Dignan, M.H.E,. ; C. O'Neill M.H.R.j J. Sheeban, M.P.C.; O'Neill- J T Boylan, M.P.C. ; and D. Lynch— presented an address of welcome to Bishop Croke on his arrival by the 'City of Melbourne, 5 to take the spiritual charge of the Catholic diocese of this province. Mr. Boylan, in prosenting the address, stated that the people of the Church were sensible of the great sacrifice that had been made by his Lordship in assum, ing his responsible office. His Lordship in reply, said it was true he had experienced considerable personal inconvenience in coming to New Zealand, but still he did not regret it, as he saw a f nil and fair field of work - and he was determined, with the assistance °l aw nock, if possible, to place the affairs of the Church in a satisfactory footing His Lordahip celebrated Pontifical High' Mass yesterday, and delivered a most eloquent and impressiv3 introductory sermon, which was listened to by a crowded congregation with marked attention.
