THE EDUCATION BILL.

To the Editor of the Daily SonnnmN Cross. Sir, — A letter appears in your issue of the 24th instant, signed " William Taylor, St. Matthew's School," which displays more than the usual acumen of the writer. I regret, however, to find the following words in his letter :—": — " Bat if the subject of religions instruction be left to the local committees, I have no fear of seeing it satisfactorily adjusted to the country." Why should Mr. Taylor fear to see this matter satisfactorily adjusted ? It ia true that, were it settled, masters of clear polished language would have one subject the less for their pens. Still I submit that its settlement would be in some respects advantageous. I need hardly say that I heartily agree with the opinion Mr. Taylor so clearly and forcibly expresses when he says : "Should clause 33 be allowed to stand part of the bill, the ad nauseam principle of instruction must ever make the subjecc of religion very repulsive to our children/ The "ad nauseam principle of instruction" iB a truly alarming one, and the evils of satiety, which Mr. Taylor has detected lurking in clause 30, should be most sedulously guarded against. Mr. Taylor carries me entirely with him when he says, " With clause 33 expunged, especially the first part of it, the bill may be niacle a a workable Act." I hope the committee oithe Council will adopt Mr. ') aylor's ttabwmendation, as I have little doubt they will, and expunge clause 33. When they do bo I trust they will have a special care not to neglect his admirable suggestion respecting the first part of it. Simplicitas.
