-J3 E P L Y. GENTLEMEN,— I have much pleasure in complying with your flattering request I will take an early opportunity of addressing you. I am, gentlemen, Yours faithfully, JULIUS VOGEL. Auckland, October 18, 1870.

TO THE ELECTORS OF AUCKLAND CITY WEST. Gentlemen,— l beg to Inform you that it is ray intention to present myself, on the day of Numination, us a Candidate for re-election to a seat for yonr dia tnot in thu next (fifth) Parliament of the General Assembly. I have tho honour to be, gentlemen, Your obedient .errant, J. WILLIAMSON. Auckland, October 21,1870.

TO THE ELECTORS OF CITY OF AUOIiLiND WEST. Fellow Citizens,— A worthy son of an old colonist called on me yesterday morning to inquire whether I intended to be a candidate for ray former seat in the Awembly for City West. He put the question, he said, because of having been told among other things, by one of the gentltmen in chaige of a requisition, that I was not likely to offer as a candidate for that district. My reply wis of course a reference to my announcement in the new*paper«. He wa9 satisfied, and «aid h" had informed the gentleman who had applied for his signature that if the old member* chose to come forward he had no wish to see them disIt appears, from the published report in the Keio Zeala7id Herald of what took place at an interview with his Honor Mr. Gillies, that a "friend "of mine, a member of the deputation who presented the requisition to that gentleman, had been informed "that Mr. Williamson intended to come out for Newton." . To avoid further misapprehension I wish you to know that such was never my intention, nor was it ever proposed to me to do so. And I further state to yau that it was not till after I was pres-ed to let my constituents know my intention with regaid to City West that my announcement was addressed to you, and published on last Fnd_y_evening. I should also inform you that before the closing of tbe recent session of Parliament a number of the members who had given a general support to the Government policy determined to resume the seats in the Honse of Representatives, if their constituents so willed it, in ord r to ussibt the author of the pohcy to give effect to it. I was one of that number. We knew that a section of the House was much opposed to the policy which we hud supported, and had laid plans for its overthrow ; if that could not be accomplished, beciuso of its po^ulaiity, that every effort should he made to wre«t from thehandi of the preirat Government the administration of it. Si^nof the c designs aro already manifest. For my own p»rtthe policy of last se«bion has long been thnt of my own conviction". The Noith Island must he opened up to tho hands of induitry, and that iudiutry encouraged by every mean* which „ Government can employ, before we can hope to »ucceed and pro-per, either in town or country. Is cal iudusti ies must auo be fo«tored so that employment may ba provided for the increning town populations Seeing that the pre-ent Government aim at these great objects, and that much collateral good oth*rwi it is likely to flow to the p OTlnce and city of Auckland from their measure.. I *ay, fellow citizen., let your support be given to the carrying out of that policy. ' Destroy it not} there i, good to it »-Yo_« *^£«& MSONi AuoklA-d.-Ootobw 20, 1570,
