LATEST THAMES NEWS. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) Monday evening.

THE COURTS. To-MORRow, the District Court will sit at Grahainatown. There are six golclmining companies' cases to be brought before it,

TWEEDSIDE COMPANY. This mine, which only the other day was sold to satisfy a judgment agaiiibt it, haa again been seized, under warrant from the District Coxirt, Auckland, at the suit of Messrs. E. Porter and Co., who obtained judgment at the last sittings of the Court. Mr. Crick, the bailiff of the Court, will, a3 jour advertising columns show, sell the claim and plant, on Thursday next, if the judgment is not sooner satisfied.

MESSRS. T. & E. MORRIN'S BRANCH ESTABLISHMENT. I observe that tlie above enterprising firm have opened a branch establishment at Grahamstown, in the premises lately occupied by Messrs. Richards and Co. The stock of ironmongery, &c, on view is both costly and varied, and exactly suitable to the requirements of a mining community. It is intended to make large additions to it, and the prices are to be compatible with the times. The firm has wisely secured the services of a local man to conduct the branch business, and one who is widely known and respected, and Mr. Hornsby, late of the firm of Messrs. E. Porter ai\d Co., has accepted the responsibilities of the position he is so capable of filline.

MINING. Central Waiotahi.— The suspension of work in the Shamrock Company's mine is a misfortune to semi- deserted Central Waio-ta-hi, which, but for the activity displayed by the Golden Age and West Coast Companies, would bo dull indeed. I do not, however, anticipate that the Shamrock mine will long lie idle, stringent mo/isuiTS being now taken to get calls in and ■• stait tne wagon" once inoie. It is so_ne.\hit strange that work sha'ild have stopped, seeing that a very masked improvement was perceptible in the la-^t stuff taken out and crushed. The " hoot ' of gold Mas evidently at hand. I lie ir that a por' ion of the large area of ground maiked out by the Digger's Friend Company hab been taken up under miners' rights, and is beii.g woiked with prospects of average success. Work is also proceeding with vigour in the adjoining King of the Waiotahi, late Golden Pl?rp Claim. , The old shaft that was sunk seventy feet below creek level has been bailed out, and driving from it, towauls where the underlie of the golden surface vein is supposed to be, is going on. The surface vein is also iv hand, and shows a broken face, about fifteen inches wide, but little or no gold, the patch that was taken out eighteen months ago being apparently confined to the outcrop On tlie opposite side of the creek the Balmoral Claim gives promise of eaily returns, thanks to the pluck of the shareholders, who are using all despatch to cut the underlie of another surface vein, that gave good returns from the outciop. The Bluestone Claim, which adjoins the two last-named, is also being worked, with the view of finding the strike of the Ciolde.i Harp leader. The tunnel ism over one hundred feet. I oannot speak too highly of the eatei prise and perseverance (lisplaj'od by the tributera who at present hold the True Briton Company's ground. 'J hey are making first-rate progress, with every probability of being adequately remunerated. They are driving on a lode that is believed to be a continuation of the Golden Age main run of stone, and are also crushing a large parcel of the stuff at the Australasian Company's maohino, which is connected with the workings by a line of tramway four hundred feet long, the said tramway having been laid down by the tributera. The return is likely to be payable. The lode runs from two to four feet in thickness. A half-ounce the ton would pay small wages. On Friday last, I paid ,\ visit to the Two-fingers Claim. Six men avo woikng in it on a couple of small lenders, from one of which some rather goodlooking specimens have bean taken. AstateJilent that appeared in the papers some time since, to the effect that stone fi'otn, this mine had yielded over loz the ton, requires substantiation. The irue yield was very much below that. Another crushing, the result of which will stamp the mine with its real value, takes place either this week or the beginning of next.

Bachelors' Cow my . — I am glad to say that the divcctoi's of this undoubtedly valuable mine Lave awoke to the necessity of re-oi'enmg it, the ground having lain fallow for many months. On Friday last, a meeting was held at the office of Messrs. Mitchell and Co., and it Avaa there and then decided to employ four men to get quartz from two leaders, known as the Great Eastern and the Mount; Smart ; also, that legal measures should be taken to recover due calls from shareholders who failed to pay up by Thursday next.

City oi- Londox — The crushing of 13 tons for this company at Vickery's machine was finished on Friday, ami the amalgam retorted on Saturday ; the melting took place to-day at the Bank of New Zealand, the return being 270z. 19dwfc. 12gr. from 13 tons of stone.

Belfast. — The gold obtained from the late crushing at Goodall's battery was deposited at the Bank of New Zealand this morning, and amounted to 240z. 21dwt. 14gr. retorted,

City of Dunedint, Tara.ru. — The quantity of amalgam collected from the crushing that is going on for this mine at Kuss 'll's battery was washed on Saturday, and kicked the beam at 1,9850z. !

Haloyov Machine. — Two batteries of; four stamps each are at work, the one on J stuff from the Mclsaacs' Claim, and the other upon Earl of Erin Claim atone, which is making a very good show on the tables. The Mclsaacs only commenced at midnight last night, but already a nice selvedge has formed on the uppev plates.

Long Drive Company. — The total return from the crusMug will not be to hand until this evening.

Gold Discoverer Machine. — The crushing for the John o'Groats tributera is just completed ; the retorting will take place tonight. Twenty tons for the Never Mind Claim part of the Herald Company's ground, follows the John o'Groats in the battery. Two trial tons from ihe John o'G-roats No. 2is going through the single-stamper. The crushing for the Berkeley Castle Company is still going on, and looking very fairly.

(JROM YESTERDAY'S "[THAMES ADVERTISER. ") The City of Dun din. — The City of Dunedin Claim, Tinker's Gully, Taravu, cleaned up partially at the Russell battery ou Saturday ni»ht. From a fortnight's crushing of 160 tons, with ten stampers, 1,9850z. of hard-squeezed amalgam were obtained from the plates and stamper-boxes alone ; the silver and blanketings are not vet treated.

The Atlantic— On Saturday, in a lot of stone that is being carted from the low level of the reef, gold was found largely distributed in a number of pieces of quartz weighing from 301b. to 501b. each. The crushing at Perry's battery has hitherto shown up for a yield of About an ounce to the ton.

The City of London. --The crushing for the Oity of Londou (lafce Tower of London), at Viokery's battery, bids fair to yield a result most satisfactory to the shareholders, for judging by the lavg*j amount of amalgam to band the average trill be over 2oa. to the ton.

The GOU3BW SPUR.~-The present crushing going on " at Souter't single-aUmper battery u showing up weilr The present, parcel » likely to prove the richest yet put through. There is a good «took of amalgam to hand already, which has accumulated on the platas after a few days' run.

The Hapjb- Creek.— We are glad to notice that there ia likely to be a considerable amount of briskness in the Hap 6 Creek, consequent on the construction of the tramway. The Pretty Nelly is now in difecfrcommunicatipn with the tramway „by means of a trackway shoot aud paddock, and is crashing staff at theiHape Creek battery that will probably pay, Weil. , There are also a number of others making similar arrangements. Amongst these we may mention the Golden

Anchor, which some time since made a remarkably good show amongst the mines of this district.

The Berkeley Castle. — The crushing from the large reef of the Port Waikato (part of the Berkeley Castle Company's ground), at p Clarkson's battery, ia likely to prove a payable one. * partial cleaning up that took place on Saturday night appeared to promise such a result.
