VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
H! esterday evening at seven o'clock a meeting of the Committee of Management was held. There was a good attendance ; and Captain Derroin, the President, occupied the chair. With respect to the letter received from Mr. Firth enclosing a cheque for £20, it was moved, seconded, and carried unanimously, that the thanks of the Committee of Management of the Battalion be given to Mr. Firth for his handsome donation. It was then moved, seconded, and carried, that a special general meeting of the Battalion be held on Tuesday evening. The subject of the new rules was then discussed foi' some time. It was moved, seconded, and carried, that the flagon, together with £12 in money prizes out of the donation by Mr. Firth, be fired for at Point Chevalier, at a date not later than the 20th of July, 1870. The Chairman then explained the scale of prizes which he thought^ would be best — in three classes : first prize of the highest class, £2 10s. ; and the third prize of the lowest. ISa. : three prizes in each class. It was then moved, seconded, and carried, that the thanks of the corps are due to the members who represented it at the late rifle contest at the Thames, and that they be entertained at a public dinner. __ It was also agreed that Captain Batger,' Lieutenant Matthews, and Sergeant Burns be appointed a sub-committee to carry out the necessary details. Several accounts were examined, and ordered to be paid} after which the meeting separated, About eight o'clock, a drill-parade of the A.JI.V. Battalion took place in the drillahed. The band of the A.R.V. also had a lengthy practice. It is increasing its numbers considerably.
