From two till four o'clock the rain felt in torrents (a Scotch miat some called it), and, about two hours before daylight, boxes of iiuming, huge boulders, "&c, came rolling down the creek with a noiso like thunder. About a dozen boxes of Saunderson's fluming were carried away. The Half-Moon commences a crushing of 50 tona to-morrow. The Tapu Company are still crushing large quantities of surface stuff at their own battery. The Golden Spectre is again at work, and looking well for profitable returns. The Linger and Die expect to have a crashing at an early date. The Challenger drive is proceeding slowly, as it ia now constant blasting. A recent crushing of 4£ tons from the Little Jessie yielded over 240z. of gold, In some of the above claims, drives are at night beautifvilly lighted by those,i natural illuminators—glowworms.
