IMPORTANT NEWS FROM TAUPO. STRRENDER OF FIFTY HAUHAUS. THE UREWERA ALL COMING IN.

Yesterday afternoon important intelligence was received in Auckland from the Taupo district. Early in the present month Major Mair with a party of men proceeded on an expedition from Fort Galatea. He crossed the Rangitikei liver and went onto Waibau, where he met a Maori messenger from a party of the Patuheuheu people, who have for some time past occupied a strong post iv the Horomanga Gorge, called Tutaepukepnke. Their pa had effectively obstructed the advance of our forces in the direction of the Ruatahana. The messenger, whose name is Ngawaka, reported that the Patuheuheu people were encamped there in considerable numbers, and that they were anxious to sur render, but were restrained by the main body of the TJrewera, who were at a place called Raoraopatate. At a subsequent date, a chief named Patera was met by our forces, and he reported that the Patuheuheu people were coming in to surrender at once. Shoi'tly afterwards, the Patuheuheu, to the mimber of over fiity men, women, and children, surrendered, and reported that the TJrewera had requested them to go towards the coast and surrender as a pioneer party^-the whole of the TJrewera being determined to follow should the lives of the first party be spared. The party who surrendered were left at Waihau for the present. They consist principally of men, twenty of whom are well armed. Two are known to have been concerned in the murder of Europeans — one of them, a man named Te Whareparakeke, in the murder of Mr. Pitcairn, the surveyor, at Ohiwa. It was expected that the whole of the TJrewera would shortly follow the Pr.tuheuheu. One of our scouting parties recently found 501b. of powder, which has been brought in.
