NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
A General Go'vebnment Gazette was published on May 26, containing an Order in Council relative to the Government Annuities Acfc, 1869. The following polling-places for the district of the Thames and coast are appointed in lieu of those formerly declared : — For the district of the Thames, the Court-house, Shortland ; Messrs. Allan and Hall's store, Tapu Creek (Hastings) ; and the Old Court-house, Coromandel. For the district of Coromandel, the Courfc-house Coromandel. The Court-house, Shortland, and the Court-house, Coromandel, are appointed the principal polling places. John Jcrmyn Symonds, Esq., is appointed returning officer for the electoral districts of Thames and Coromandel. His Excellency the Governor delegates to the Honorable Julius Vogel, the Commissioner of Customs, the power to appoint and remove officers and persons subordinate to the Commissioner, to collect and manage the Customs revenne, &c. The election of Reader Gilson Wood, for Parnell, is duly announced, Adolphus Frederic Hardy, Esq., is appointed to be the deputy of the Registrar of Marriages, &c, for the district of Turanga. William Moule, Esq., J.P., is appointed Resident Magistrate for the district of Tauranga, vice H. T. Clarke, Esq. Hopkins Clarke, Esq., is is appointed, vice R. J. Gill, Esq., to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate's Court, Taurauga. Government Insurance and Annuities Offices have been opened at the Thames and Hamilton. Application has been made by Messrs. Frederick William Wright and George Charles Herrick, of Auckland, praying for the granting of letters patent for an improved self-acting ' clamp mountain wire tramway. Application is also made by George Philip Hilton, C.E., and Robert Walker Fairbairn, machinist, Shortland, for letters ' patent for certain improvements in lowering, raising, and transporting minerals, &c.
