, May 2 : The Queen's Birthday is to be kept on the 24th instant. A levee will te held, with an official dinner, at Government House afterwards. Ou the following day a ■ball will be held. The Government have i chartered the 'Bengal' for £800, for the voyage up to Port Darwin. Goode, the man 'who was injured in the late riots by the police, lias received £30 from the Government. May 4 : The Bushman's Home is to be formally opened next week. May 5 : The cora market is quiet ; wheat, ss. 3d. Sugar is very fnm, holders asking higher rates. Ai rived : 'Jane Bell,' from Calcutta. May 6 : The Ministry have resigned, and Mr. Strangways has been sent for and entrusted with the task of reconstructing the Ministry. The National Bank meeting passed off much more quietly than was expected, owing to satisfactory explanations, Mr. Blyth's resolution was carried, expresaing the advisability of declaring a dividend. Messrs. Blyth and Hughes were re-elected directors. An influential deputation of Northern Territory landholders waited on the Government, requesting the postponement of the dra wang for selection until the 30th June; on the ground that until that date proprietors could accept the increased area. The Government declined to alter the present 'arrangement.
