THE VOLUNTEERS.
A Special mounted parade of the Auckland Royal Cavalry Volunteers and the Prince Alfred Light Horse was held yesterday afternoon in the Domain. There was a fair attendance of the two troops , and a full muster of the officers. Of the latter there were present — the Inspecting Officer, Major Tisdall; the officer commanding, Captain Carey ; Lieutenant Snell, and Cornet May of the Auckland troop ; and , Lieutenant Smith and Cornet Motion, of the * Prince Alfred Horse. There were also present the two surgeons, Drs. Wright and Hooper, together with Veterinary Surgeon Kinloch. At first, the Auckland troop was practised at the sword exercise, at the trot, and the full gallop, the various movements of which were executed in a remarkably creditable manner, so much so that an expression of surprise was involuntarily drawn from Major Tisdall at the men's proficiency. The Prince Alfred troop, not being equal in proficiency, were practised at the sam« exercise for some time alone by Captain Carey, afterwards under the immediate command of Lieutenant Snell, and afterwards the two troops were combined under the command of Captain Carey, when various evolutions were gone through. The parade upon the whole showed a marked improvement in the proficiency of the members, more especially iii the Prince Alfred troop j and if the same spirit and energy Wqw Bhown are continued' *by them, it will not be long befere they become iough rivals to their older' comrades, the Auckland cavalry.
