COMPENSATION COURT. — Friday.

[Before Thomas JBeckuaai, Esq., R.M.] The Taranaki Award Case— Further Postponement. — A sitting of the Compensation Court was held yesterday forenoon in the District Court, Eden-street, to receive wiittcn statements from the respective claimants setting out prima, facie cases. Mr. Weston appeared for Mr. William Nash, of Taranaki ; Mr. Hesketh for Dr. Samuels ; and Mr. MacCormick|for George Broadmore, as representing th?" children of Mr. George Patterson, deceased. After a long discussion as to the form of proceduie to be followed, it was arranged that each counsel should open and close his case, and then leave the matter to the decision of the Commissioner. Mr. Weston read a statutory declaration by Robert William King, claiming to have a, prima facie case on behalf of William Nash, formerly of Taranaki, but now of Liverpool ; Mr. Hesketh read a declaration by Dr. James Samuels, of Taranaki ; and Mr. MacCormick read a statement (which he said was not verified) by Mr. George Broad, more as representing the children of the late Mr. George Patterson, of Taranaki. There was discussion as to the admission of evidence in support of each declaration ; and it was agreed that evidence • should be taken by declaration before a Justice of the Peace in England or elsewhere, save in the Resident Magistrate's district around Auckland, the witnesses within which should appear personally. The further consideration of the case was adjourned until the 11th January next, in order to give time for procuring Mr. Nash's evidence from England. It was also settled that no further adjournments were to be asked for.
