ACCIDENTS AT THE SOUTH.

On Wednesday, the 19fch January, as Mr. Thomas Windle, of Prospect Farm, Eastroad, Takaka, was in the act of cross-cutting off a log from the butt of a large felled tree, oil the side of a ateep bank, it broke suddenly away, hurling him to the ground, passing over him, and in its course bruising his side, knee, and displacing his collar-bone, cutting his face near to the left eye very severely. Mr. Windle is now progressing favourably. From the Lake Wakatip Mall, 20th iiist,, we extract the following : — "Another accident occurred in the Shotover river yesterday morning. As Mr. Whittingham (of Whittingharn Brothers) and Mr. Beal, manager ef the Bank of New Zealand, were proceeding across in a two-horse buggy, the two inside traces broke at the buckles, while the horses were attempting to drag the trap out of a soft place. Mr. D. M. Mackay, who had just crossed the stream, noticed the dangerous fix, and at once returned to render assistance He had, however, to get off his horse, and with great difficulty— while standing up to his waist in the stream— managed to supply the place of the couplings with rope." A serious accident, which very probably will end fatally, occurred at Belfast-terrace. Brighton. While a man named McCrillicuddy was working in Harrold's (Leasehold) Claim, a quantity of earth fell on the poor fellow, breaking several of his ribs, displacing the breastbone, and bruising him severely. Hia mates in a very short time extricated and removed him to his hut. Dr. Henry, who, fortunately, was at hand at the time visiting a patient* was in immediate attendance, and did everything possible to relieve the sufferer. The doctor, however, has little hopes of his recovery.
