THE ADMIRAL'S DINNER PARTY AND BALL.

Shortly before two o'clock, his Excellency Sir George Bowea, and Lady Bowen, attended by Captain Pitt and Captain Young, went on board one of the cutters of the 'Liverpool,' which was lying alongside the Wyayard Pier; and the roomy, handy, and fast steam-launch of the flagship taking the cutter in tow, very speedily laid her alongside the • Liverpool's' ladder. Rear-Admiral Hornby and his officers were in waiting at; the gangway to receive his Excellency ; a salute was fired, and the yards were manned. Soon afterwards, the launch was again on her way from the Wynyard Pier, towing another cutter containing guests of the Admiral, who had been invited to meet his Excellency and Lady Bowen at dinner. Il made a srindous and benulifully breezy ballroom ; and the deck wanted no*tiinr but spring to render it perfection as a dancing floor. A capstan-head w-js made the reatinir-place of a sjroup of bayonets ; a glazed frame containing the arms of the city of Liverpool, beautifully emblazoned, occupied a prominent place against the flasf-draped bridge, the Work having been specially executed for a mayor of Liverpool, and presented by him to the ship, on the occasion of her visit to that port; the main hatch was transformed into a cross between a divan Sitid a number of settees ; cushions, covered with flags, made cosy seats of the different port-holes ; and, at every point, something had been done to add to the comfort of the guests or the effect of the decorations. The nicely effective band of the ship occupied an orchestra, which was perched against the draped mainmast; and there was a long programme of dances.
