LATEST FROM TAURANGA. TWO PRISONERS TAKEN.

i February 4. I take advantage of the return of the s.s. ' Tauranga to Aitckland, to say th' at up to the present moment we have nothing further to communicate than what I sent yon by the 1 Sturt, ' only that late last nightj or early this morning, two prisoners were, taken — a male and female. Every means has been resorted to to obtain informatioit from them, but to no purpose, only that Te Kooti is in the bush around them. It has also been ascertained that there is a large force of the enemy in our neighbourhood, as at Paengaroa long sheds of rude buildings have recently been erected and occupied, evidently in order to shelter a very large foi'ce.. i, It is needless in me again repeating that, we have eyery confidence in Mr Commissioner Clarke, upon whom devolves the responsibility of carrying out to a successful issue the arrangements for repelling the invasion of Te Kooti and his force into our district. We are all anxious, but not cast down, and are full of hopes as to a speedy result. We shall probably have a messenger from the Front this evening. We are deeply indebted to Captain Montgomery, and the officers and men of the ' Blanche, ' for the readiness and support which they have rendered to the town of Te Papa. Their vigilance and gentlemanly deportment are such that I may safely say that we are not insensible to it.
