HAND-IN-HAND, MOANATAIARI. — STARTING OF THE MACHINE.

After being at a stand for six months, this small machine has made a start this afternoon. During this period of idleness, it has been thoroughly overhauled, and several alterations made about it, which will make it more complete and efficient than hitherto. A new plumber box has been add ad for the crank shaft, and this alone has most materially added to its steadiness. The engine and boiler aie vertical, or four-horse power, but with ease would wwrk several more stampers than it has at present. The number of stampers is four, and the tables twelve feet in length, coj>pered, or, with the planked table, twenty-one feet. Looking at the small space the whole stamp covers, we think that it is of the right description for such gullies where it now is The whole of the alterations has been carried out by contract by Air. James Gai 1 ett, engineer, much to the satisfaction of Mr. Thomas, and other gentlemen who were present, in connection with the mine. The mine manager, Mr. Biimie, would have been ready to crush on the company's stuff at once, and for some time, but owing to an accident which occuricd the other day, whereby part of the numing was earned away, and the fall of a tree, the supply of water has been somewhat intei rnpted foi a few days.
