POLICE COURT.— Wednesday.

(Before H. D. Morpeth, Esq , and A. \V. East, Esq , J.P.s ) ' Drunkenness. — George Green, Michael Ryan, Jane Goldsmith, and Jame? McFarlane were charged with this offence, and punished in the usual manner, William Swanson, charged with a similar offencp, made no appearance, and bis bail wa? declared forfeited. Breach of Merchant Seamen's Act, 1854. — Richard Ventriea was brought up charged with a breach of this Act iv his having left the ship 'Maori' without leave. Constable Will stated that the prisoner liad left the aliip * Maori' and kept out of the way till some time had elapsed, and the vepsel had sailed. On making his appearance he had been apprehended ou a warrant. There being no person to prosecute, the name of Richard Matthews, on whose information the charge had byeu laid, was called three times, and the prisoner was forthwith digcharged. -J
