We continue our extracts from the Sydney Morning Herald of Augusb 1 : — Breadstuff's and Cereals : At date of last summary per Panama mai], a downward tendency was manifest in the breadstuff's market* The depression was increased by the sale of the cargo of Cahfornian flour ex 'Emma Mam,' at £17 15s to £18 7s 6d for sound, and £4 15s to £15 15s for the damaged portion, but still more so by the publication of Government statistics showing that during the six months ending 30th June 127,870 bushels ot wheat, and 2,261 tons of flour, worth, in round number?, £100,000, hud b«eu conveyed from the interior by the Government railways. This source of supply was entirely overlooked by parties engaged in the trade in their calculations of our probable requirements for the year. The arrivals of the 'Penang* and 'Mexican*,' from Sau Francisco, caused a further decline, and the market closes at £3 to £4 per tou lower than last month. A poition of the 'PeuangV shipment of flour was placed by auction at £16 to £16 ss, the balance privately at £15 ; and wheat at 7s 3d. The ' Mexican*' s' chargo has been stored for the present. To-day best flour cannot be quoted above £19 ; inferior and medium quality, £15 upwards. Wheat is dull of sale. Adelaide sorts may be quoted at 8s ; colonial, 7s to 7s 6d. New Zealand, nominal. A nice sample of Western Australian changed hands at 7s. Oats are in demand at 3s to 3s 6d, English barley also meets inquiry at 5s to 5* 6d. Maize is weaker; good shipping parcels are obtainable at 2s 3d to 2s sd. Eecent advices from England of low prices ruling there are likely to stp further shipments in that direction for the present. Candles : Forced sales have caused a further decline; full weight* changed hands at 9fdto 10£d, the latter for De Koubaix. Coffee : In full supply at last month's quotations ; sales confined to small parcels. Dried Fruits : No improvement can be reported ; all descriptions in excessive supply. Dundee Goods : Sales of cornsacks are reported at lls 6d to 11s Vd, The market has siuce hardened, and some holders decline to quit under 12s. Woolpacks still quoted at 3d 91 to 4s 91 ; bagging twine, &C, unchanged. Fish : Supplies ample. Quarter sardines are worth 5s Id to 5d 3d, halves 8s to 8s 3d ; aalraon, salt and preserved, plentiful. Liquors ; All descriptions are very slow of sale, and prices lower. Martell's and Hennessy's bulk brandy has been selling at 7s 91 to 8s 3d ; Martell's case, 253 ; Hennessy's and Denis Mouney's, 28s 6d. Rum has fallen to 4s 6d for 30 o,p. ; the Sugar Company have reduced their price to 15s 9d d.p. Bulk stout saleable at £6 to £6 15s ; bottled, in less demand, Bulk ale, inactive, at prices more favourable to buyers ; bottled is also lower. Oilmen's Stores : A better demand has been experienced during; the pasb week, but without leading to any change in quotations. Oils : Linseed is offering ab 4s 6d to 4s 9 J ; colza, & to 5s 3d ; castor, dull at 7d for prime samples. Rice : Stocks are large. Patrta is nominally £25. A good sample of dressed Siam, in 561b. bags, sells at £21; Saigon, £18 to £21. The ' Salaoia,' with 10,000 bags of the latter, had been ordered on here from Melbourne. Salt : Prices have receded. Coarse Liverpool sells at £5 to £5 10s ; rock, dull, at £3 10s to £3.155. Sugar : The sale of a cargo of Bourbon was made this week at the following rates : — Very dark ration, £23 10s ; low ration, £25 5s to £26 ; medium, £26 17b 6d to £27 10s ; tine ration and low counters, £28 7s 6d to £30 10a. Other descriptions have fallen in value from 10s to £1 per ton. Teas : The demand is entirely confined to trade demands, at holders' prices. Stocks are light, and sales unimportant.
