VICTORIAN ENTERPRISE AT HAMILTON.

Our Hamilton correspondent, writing on the llfch instant, says :—: — Mr. Hammond, a Victorian gentleman, has latelypurchased through hia agent, Captain Steele, about 1,000 acres, some two miles from this, on the Ohaupo road. We has already cleared and laid down with grass 300 acres, and h»« commenced fencing, intending to enclose the whole property preparatory to stocking it with sheep from his run in Victoria. I might mention en passant that all his posts are charred — a precaution that our settlers, although an extra expense at first, but which must repay t'xem in the long run, should adopt. Several mobs of fat cattle have late passed through here en route for the Auckland market. Their condition speaks favourably as to the grazing capabilities of the Waikato. Mr. J. Pennington, the spirited proprietor of the Hamilton Hotel, has fenced in several acres in the township, for the accommodation of parties driring stock.
