TAUPO. THE EUROPEANS WARNED TO LEAVE THE DISTRICT.

We are sorry to learn that the Europeans have been warned to leave the Taupo district, where a number of runs' have been lately taken up by gentlemen from the South. The fiawhts Bay Herald of the 1 tth instant says :— " Yesterday morning Mr. McDonald, overseer for Mr. Cox at Taupo, arrived in town. On his way he called at Mir. Helyar's station, and was there informed that a half-caste named Frederick Sullivau, temporarily residing there, had been told by the Tapu natives to warn the European settlers to leave the district, as a large war party was concentrating at a distance of one day's march. Mr. McDonald has been aware for some time that he was in a very dangerous neighbourhood. All the natives about are well armed, and one showed him lately in bravado a new revolver. The want of some person in authority is much felt in the district."
