THE THAMES AND ITS ATTRACTIONS. ARRIVAL OF MORE DIGGERS.

About forty more diggers ..arrived yesterday per s.s. ' Ahuriri,' many of whom at once proceeded to the Thames. It would appear by these continual arrivals that the surpassing richness of our goldfields is, at last, becoming not only known, but believed in, by the people of the other provinces. The Wellington Independent of the 4ih instant says;— "The s.s 'Gothenburg,' which arrived in Wellington yesterday, brought a very lurge number of diggers from Melbourne and the South, for the Thames; certain female adventurers were also noticeable among the passengers." A correspondent writes as follows to the came paper, under the cognomen of " Hope" :: — '• In common with all who have the prosperity of the colony at heart, lam rejoiced to learn from time to time, through your excellent paper, of the wealth which the Thames goldfield is beginning to yield the country. As a proof that our own province, Wellington, must l>e speedily benefited by this, lam told that fat wethers now fetch 25s a piece at the Thames. If this price can be obtained for bheep at a place within three days' sail of Wellington our Ste-nn Navigation Company mijjht, I think, do worse than l»y on a vessel to trade direct between this and the Thames, whereby our surplus stock might be conveyed to a good market. The complaint is loud at present of bad times, anJ our sheep farmers declare that their stuck has become a drug in the market. Why not send their wethers to the Thames when it is said they might get 255. a piece for them, and thus both enrich themselves and cause a fresh circulation of money in the place ? When I viuited the Thames a month ago there were 10,000 people on the goldfield, and they were still crowding in by every steamer. So good are the miuing prospects in that quarter that it is expected there will be 50, 000 people at the Thames goldfield— the richest the world erer saw— by the end of the incoming summer. Let our down-hearted sheep farmers then bestir themselves."
