EDUCATIONAL TRUSTS.

To the Editor of the Daily Southern Cboss. Sir, — Crifcic3 have been advised ere now never to read the works they iutend to criticise in or.ier not to be prejudiced in favour of the authors. Like those critic, " J.W." appears not to require to be in possession of the sfcate of affairs in the Catholic community. Had he made inquiries, the point of his last letter would hare been loBt, for he would hare found that the clergy have had for th» last 18 years the absolute and unquestioned control of the temporalities of the Church, of the educational trust*, and of the religion and «ducation of the Catholic cajnmonity. Had he inquired, he would have learnt that the temporalities of the Church from a reality had become an airy nothing ; and had he attended the education meeting 1 * be would have learnt, from an authority which he at least would not questioo, "that the education of our children had been trampled under foot." We do not desire to parade our grievances through the medium of the Press, as we feel too deeply and keenly the disgrace and humiliation which the ecclesiastical management has entailed upon our community, and we would gladly condone the past if vre had any guarantee f«r an improvement in the future. But, supported by visionaries, who will nev« r leave their air castles to wrestle with the stern realities of life, I am afraid that our clergy, so far as education is concerned, will still shut their eyes to the fact that the day of blind obedience in secular matters is past, and that the education of his children is too sacrei a duty for a parent long to suffer it to be trampled under foot by ecclesiastical mismanagement. — I am, &c, June 13, 1868. A LATMAN.
