COMMEMORATION OF THE QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.

fTHK Queeu'a Birthday was celebrated in Auckland bn Thursday with the customary honours. The various places of business and public officers throughout the bity Were cosed, tnd business was entirely sus ponded, while the good citizens gave theinselres up jto recreation and 'holiday enjoyment. At noon the iNaval Artillery Volunteers, uader the command of •Lieutenant JFeatou, took [ios,fc on tbo st^o of tbo jhill .outside., the, Sjmonds-street gate of the Albert Barraokp, and fired the usual Royal salute, tweatyjone guns. A considerable concourse of people had .(assembled on the ground to witness the ceremony, [which, notw.ithatauding two 6r three very serious 'drawbacks, was creditably performed. During the afternoon Qm en-street and the wharf were jpromenaded by numbers ,of 'wrll-dregsed people, (while others enjoyed a quiet_stroll by tho r seaside,, or jin' "the' 'Domain.
