WEEKLY SUMMARY. Shipping business has been rather dull during the past week. We have only three foreign arrivals and two interprovincial departures to report. On the 11th, the barque Novelty arrived from Sydney, with a large general cargo. On the 14th, H.M. s.s. Brisk came up the harbour from Sydney, in order to relieve H.M. s.s. Falcon, which is timeexpired on this statioD. The barque Prince Alfred arrived on the 16th from Sydney, with a cargo of general merchandise. On the 11th, the steamers Lord Ashley and Wellington left for Southern ports with mails and passengers. The schooner Kenilworth arrived from Ngunguru on the 13th, with 50,000 feet timber ; and the cutter Agnes from Porerty Bay, with 244 bags grass seed, and 80 cases apples. The schoonsr Tawera sailed for Poverty Bay on the 11th, with a miscellaneous cargo ; and the schooner JForfcune for Opotiki, with sundries. On the 13th the schooner Tauranga sailed for the Bay of Islands, with sundries. The schooner Ivanhoe sailed on the 15th for Mangonui, with stores; and the schooner Sea Breeze sailed for Russell the same day. On the 16th the schooner Jane sailed for Tauranga, with sundries ; and the schooner Muriwai for Tairua, to load timber for Poverty Bay. U.IYLb. Brisk left for the Bay of Islands on the 15th, with his Excellency the Governor and the Earl of Pembroke j and the Colonial Government p.s. Sturt also took her departure for the same place, with a number of passengers. On the 14th the steamer Tauranga left on an excursion trip to the Bay of Islands, with a large number of gentlemen who were desirous of being present at the great native meeting to be held at Waitangi. The chartered schooner Albatross left for the same place. The ship Maori has completed her loading, and will sail for London next week.

J THE EMPRESS. The clfpper barque Empress, Captain Cooper, sailed yesterday for the Bay of Islands, to take in a cargo of oil for New Bedford, U.S. The Empress arrived from London on' March 11, and has lost no time in discharging her inward cartfo, which was landed in good condition. We are glad to see that the whalers have been unusually successful this season, and expect that, in consequence of the lucrative returns which they have had, a much larger number will visit our coasts next season. During the past two months five whalers have visited Russell, 'with an aggiegate quantity of oil amounting to 4,930 barrels. Ths large quantity of oil taken by each vesseHs probably owing, in a great measure, to the diminished number of whalers which are now cruising in these seas, the trade having fallen off considerably during the Amejican war. The Empress will probably remain at Russell for about a fortnight.

ARRIVAL OF THE SCHOONER KAURI. The schooner Kauri arrived from Lyttelton last evening. after a boisterous passage. She left LyHelton on the 26th March, with a south-east wind. On the 29th, when' off Castle Point, encountered.*, heavy N.E. gale, which compelled her to inn bael£* to Wellington. Left Wellington on the Ist Aptif, with a strong N.W. wind, which 'continued during the remainder of the passage. Put into the Mercery . Islands for, shelter on the 13th, and- arrived' ifr Earbou» as above. _ "»••"**" Passenger : Mr. W. Rider. Cargo: 219 sacks flour, 247 sacks oats, Capbain (agent). [,
