(FROM THE "THAMES ADVERTISER," APRIL 14.)
A meeting will be held »t Mulligan's Governor Bowen Hotel, Waiotahi Flat, on Thursday evening, in order to consider the best site for the proposed wharf at that place. The adjourned meeting to consider a memorial to Mr. Commissioner Mackay, requesting him to convene an indignation meefcingon the subject of the attempted assassination of H.B.H. the Duke of Edinburgh, will take place at Butt's Hotel, at 7 o'clock this evening. . The American Theatre has been crowded during the E»ster holidays. John Holland was apprehended on Sunday, by constable Lipsey, charged with stealing £1 from a tent at the back of Hose's Thames Hotel, the property of Charles Peterson. Prisoner was brought up at the Court-house to-day, but the apprehending constable asked for a remand until to-morrow on the ground that the prosecutor was lying drunk at that time. The ptisoner was consequently remanded. Business has been brisk at Tapa during the past few days. Messrs. W. Buckland, J. S. Macfarlane, Mackelvie, Aitkin, P. Whitaker, F. Wrigley, and other gentlemen have visited the place, and two promises of erecting powerful machinery have emanated from members of the party. Claims have enhanced in value considerably. The 'ihistle, Shamrock, Hit or Miss, and other claims have excellent prospects. In the Lord Nelson no less than 6 ounces to the dish have been obtained. Edward Sellars and party have struck excellent gold during the past few days, and have a good prospect in their claim near Cashell's. Yesterday a considerable rush was made to a patch of ground in which splendid prospects had been obtained, close to the township, and near Seeats's British Hotel. The rush is highly spoken of by our informant, and something good is expected to arise from the locality, after a fair trial of the ground. The working claims are doing well, and only want machinery of a first-class description on the ground to satisfy all their wants.
