REFLE FIRING.
The members of No. 6 Company Auckland Rifle Volunteers met at the butts, Point Chevallier, yesterday, for target practice, and to compete for the honour of the oross-rifles. Owing, however, to the inclement state of the weather, only seren members appeared ontheground up to the time of commencing to fire. Although the wind was pretty favourable for firing, thb competitors had to contend againßt a rather thick miafc and drizzling r*in, which rendered the target at intervals vecy obscure ; bat notwithstanding this drawback the firing on the whole was very creditable. The cross-rifles were won by private W. M.Hay (solicitor), who made an excellent score of 43 points and hits. The firing was superintended by Captain J. Batger. The following are the scoreß : —
