MEETING AT LOWER MAHUBANGI. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) April 9.
A numerously attended meeting of the settlers of Lower Mahurangi (Eastern district) was held at the ohurch, Mahurangi Heads, on Friday, the 3rd ihst. ; Mr. M. W. Munro, in the chair. The meeting was called to consider the advisability of having the Highways Act brought into operation in the above district. It was proposed by Mr. Maetw, and seconded by Mr. DABBOOH, " That the Superintendent be petitioned to form the district, bounded by the Mahurangi river on the west, Matakana river on the east, on the south by the sea, and on the north as already defined." Proposed by Mr. Mubriy that the district go as high as No. 48. After considerable discussion the motion was withdrawn. Several other matters of local importance having been discussed, a vote of thanks to the Chairman, for the manner in which the business was conducted, waff carried unanimously, and the meeting separated.
