RIVERHEAD. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) April 9.
Aw arrangement has been made to carry goods direofc from Auckland to Albertland, a convenience which was very much wanted, by the favourite s.s. •Gemini' to Riverhead, thence by dray to Helenaville, and thence by the « Pai Marire,' which will run from Helenmlle to Albertland every Tuesday. The natives around here are in high spirits, and making great preparations for the races on Monday. The gum trade is still holding out well, and affords an honest and independent living to a number of people. It is also highly encouraging to see so many homesteads being erected in the district. A further progress has been begun this week in a meeting, which was held at the Waitemata schoolroom, to get the districts of Helens ville, Riverhead, and Hobsonville united into a charge under the Auckland Presbytery. The meeting was held on Monday. The Rev. Darid Bruce and Mr. Robert Somerville, under whose oharge the districts are, conducted the services. Mr. Bruce preached a sermon, from the fifty*first Psalm, and addressed the people assembled on behalf of the Presbytery. At the request of the settlers he declared the district a charge under the Presbjtery of Auckland. The following committee was appointed to carry out the arrangements : — Mr. Isaac McLeod, for Helensville ; Mi?. Clark and Mr! Carter, jun,, for Hobsonvdle j Mr. Lamb, for Riverhead, who was appointed treasurer for the dia.tricfc, It was also proposed and agreed to erect a churon »t Ri» erhead. About £30 was subscribed at th» meeting for this purpose. I may mention that the site for the church has been given by J. S. Maofarlane, Esq., Auckland, and is an acre in extent. .
