Oar Hobart Town files are to the 13th instant. Of the marjcets, the Mercury reports.: — , * / The new* received from -the. colonies to-day has had the effeot of greatly firming prices, especially for breadstuff's ; and, although there have been few transactions, there is every indication of a firm market for some little time, at all events. At 7s 6d a considerable parcel was sold this morning, and it is further reported that a sale at 8s has been made. In other produce there has been a fair amount of trade doing for local consumption. The marltetj is glutted with bacon and ham*, and prices quoted are from 8d to lOd. The Launeeseon Examiner of the 14th instant has the following : — The news by the k.s. ' Tasmania ' gave additional firmness to our breadstuff's market, , and a marked advance in quotations has followed. A letter from Melbourne informs us that advices from Tasmania as to our crops thrashing out badly gave an impetus, to speculations, and holders of oats at once asked extreme rates. Several parcels were bought up at 4s 6d to 4s 9d, but the trade would not , give, those rates, and it was not probable they would be maintained, especially when the demand for seed was satisfied. Business in flour had fallen off since holders had advanced to £20, and no sale at that figure had taken place ; {Tasmania was worth £17 to £17 10s in bond. Wheat wm very scarce, the millers not getting sufficient to keep them at work, and good samples were worth 8s to 8s 3d. Maize was quoted at 2s lOd. In our own market flour is now worth £17. Wheat— old, 7s" 6d ; new, 7s to Vs 3d. Sales of oats have been made dt 3s 6d for feed, and 4s for seed. Taws, 6s. Bye grass, 4s 6d. Barley, English, 5s 6d ; Cape, 3s. Tasmania oatmeal, < £22 to £24. Hay, old, £2 15s to £2 17«7d ; new, £2 ss. Potatoes are now coming in very freely, and are easier, the present figure being £3 10s. „
