ARRIVAL OF THE S. S. 'AUCKLAND,' WITH THE ENGLISH MAIL. NEWS TO OCTOBER 15. [The following appeared in our Second Edition yesterday.]
The P., KZ., and A.E.M. Cob. s.s. 'Auckland,' Captain Harris, E.N E., arrived in harbour at 10 o'clock this morning, after a rapid run of 5 days 2 hours. She brings the English Suez mail, a general cargo, and the following passengers — Saloon: Lieut.-ColonelElliott (18th Eegiment), Mrs. Elliott ; Messrs. A. Thomas, E.N., J. Stewart, W. Wright, Mrs. G. C. Eames, Master Eames, Misses McDonald (2) ; and 12 in the forecabin.
(TBOM THE KINO GEORGE'S SOUND CORRESPONDENT OP THE " SIDNEY MORNING HERALD.") The A.S.N. Co. '» steamer ' Alexandra,' Captain Brown, arrived off Glenelg at 6 p.m., after »92 hour*' passage from the Sound. The upward trip occupied 107 hours, against head winds. The ( Avoca ' armed at the Sound 194 houis after the 1 Alexandra,' and left at 3 pm. on the 4th initant for Galle. The 'Geelong,' Captain Skottovre, arrired at the Sound at 6.15 p.m. on the Bth iustant, having left Galle at 5.15 p.m. on the 23rd October, one day late; she encountered unusually strong trades to 29' south latitude.— Commander Stack* house, naval agent.
1 PASSENGERS. For Sydney. — Mr. J. Lawaon. For Mklboo-njb. — Mr. and Mm. F. Row, Mr. and Mrs. Sichel, two infant* aud European servant ; Messrs. Thomas Stewart, Alfred Shaw, John Blyth ; Mr. and Mrs. Bug;*, five children aud two servants ; Lieutenant McLachlan, Monsieur E. Paver, E. Hall, Stevens >n, McLachlan, Ballicrossan, two Japanese men and three Japanese women (coDJurori). Fott Australia..— Mr. Airs, Muter Johniton and servant, Mr. Anstey. The damage to the P. and steamer 'Surat,' which struck a reef in the Bed Sea, is estimated at £40,000. The P. and O. steamer ' Singapore' was wrecked near Japan on an Unknown ruck, and six minutes after sank in 100 fathoms water. The drew and passeogers, 150 in number, were saved.
