MONETARY AND COMMERCIAL. DALGETTY, DU CROZ, & CO.'S WOOL CIRCULAR.

Our tbird series of public sales of colonial wools commenced on 16th instant, and is expected to continue until 25th proximo. The arrivals and catalogues to date embrace the following quantities and descriptions in addition to about 20,000 bales held over : —

The attendance of buyers thus far has not been equal to that of last t-eries, and foreigners not LaviDg operated freely there bas been a quiet tone and a .decided reduction in New Zealand wool, of which there is bo large a proportion, while other descriptions stand at about May rates. Coarse and ha l f -bred wool remains neglected. .. Victorian : The supply of good combing fleeces 'of fise quality rires not appear to be large, and scoured fleece and sh'pe hare been predominant) besides which there is a considerable quantity from the Northern district. We expect the prime wools held over will shortly be brought forward, and that they will elicit more competition than has yet been observed. Australian fine clothing sells at the average rate of last series, and is in very fair demand. South Australian is mostly rather indifferent, but sells at about late rates. Tasmanian bas gone back to early rates oE last sales. New Zea'and wools, especially in the grease, are in large tupply, and have experienced a decline of Id to IJd per lb. from the prices current in June. There has been some interruption to the b*arve3t by occasional days of heavy rain, but, as they have been followed by brilliant weather, wemay congratulate ourselves on its progress so far. The home trade has not, however, materially improved ; foreigners are said to have stocked themselves heavily in the second series, but there is some competition from Germany and France — chiefly for fine wools. The prospect of peace being maintained is much improved. t The imports of the year show fully the usual increase, and although the rate of interest is low there is no disposition to speculate or to lay in heavy stocks.
