ARRRIVAL OF 700oz. OF GOLD.

By the s.s. ' Tauranga ' and p.s. 'Enterprise No. 2,' which arrived from the Thames on Saturday night, 700oz. of gold were brought to town for export per next Sydney steamer. Mr. Hunt, of Hunt's Eeef, brought up 6000z., the result of their crushing by the small Berdan machine erected near the claim. The gold, judging from the value of Tookey's, as assayed at the Sydney mint, is worth £1,650, and was lodged by Mr. Hunt in the Union Bank yesterday morning. We believe it is the intention of the reef-holders to patronise the various banks alternately, with a view of avoiding any monopoly which would otherwise ensue. Mr. Kelly, whose reef has hitherto been unknown to fame, also came up in the p.B. 'Enterprise' on Saturday night, bringing with him 99 ounces of gold, the product of the claim bearing his name. The weather of the past fortnight has been anything but favourable for the prosecution of mining pursuits, or we understand a much larger amount would have been sent up for export by the Sydney steamer on Saturday next. There will, however, be fully 1,000 ounces, and which, when we remember the poor facilities the miners at present possess for crushing the yield of their claims, must be allowed to be most satisfactory. The little s.s. * Gemini' left Kauwaeranga on Saturday with his Honor the Superintendent for Eopu, where he would be found by Mr. Commissioner Mackay and Te Moananui, on the return of the ' Gemini' from a trip to Coromandel.
