The Empire of the lot instant says :— Soaroity of tonnage prevents the execution of large orders for coaU, some of whioh have been on liand some months awaiting freight. The representatives of the Newcastle Coal Company hare entered n.to arrangements to raise the price of coals on the Ist January, 10s. per ton for the produce of the mines haying the highest oharacter, and 8s to 9s 9d for the coals of other companies which hare not so high a standing. Heavy stocks of breadstuffs are held, and shipments are coming forward from Adelaide to await freights for England. The South Australian markets continue very low, 4s 7d to 4a 8d per bushel being the ourrent rate for wheat, and £10 to £11 per ton for flour. Here Adelaide wheat is offering at 6s 3d, and flour at £12 to £13. Sydney millers quote best flour at £12.
