MELBOTTfcNE HAILS. The Hon. Mr. Mbkzhs uked the Government, " The reason on account of which the mail boat ' Otago failed to take the Southland mails on its last royage to Melbourne to meet the Sues mail boat." He did so< as much inconvenience had arisen from the vessel in ■ question sot hating called at the Bluff. So the people of Southland felt aggrieved at the Government hating - delayed the * Otago in Wellington after her date of . sailing. He wished the reply of the Government, placed on record: . ; " The Hon. Major RiOHABDSON thought the delay had been occasioned by serere weather on her south '" journey, but would give a detail at a future sitting. Mr. Mantxll, there was ordered to be laid on the table, "All correspondence between the Superintendent of Auckland and the Colonial Secretary relative to the Native Lands Act, 1866, and the East Coast Land Titles Investigation Act, 1866 ; also, copies of correspondence between Mr. Surveyor Bnrslem and the Native Department relative to the latter of the above-named Act»."

Mr. Menziis moved, " That all th© papers and correspondence connected with the payment of salaries daring the past twelve months to officers of the Waste Land and Survey Departments in the province of Southland, either with the concurrence or contrary to recommendations of the Provincial Council of that province, be laid upon the table."— Carried.

Mr. Menzus moved, " That a committee be appointed to consider all bills affecting wast* lands of the Crown that may, during this session, be introduced into this Parliament.
