WAIUKU PLOUGHING MATCH.

To the Editor of the Datly Southern Cross. Sir,— l observe from one of your last week's isiues that it is proposed to hold a ploughing match at Waiuku, under the auspices of the Agricultural Society. Now, sir, I have no doubt whatever that the district of Waiuku can produce some as good ploughmen as can be found in the province of Auckland; but the question ariseß in my mind, Will those ploughmen come forth and exhibit their skill on the day proposed ? We have heard a good deal of what the Agricultural Society at Waiuku has been going to do at different times, but I can find that, of all their proposed schemes, only that relative to the the destruction of hawks is made of practical value. Will the members of the Agricultural Society pardon me if I say that at the forthcoming match there ought not to be less than ten or a dozen teams to the fore ? And I hope, for the honour of the place, we shall not see leas than that number. It is somewhat humiliating for ut to read at one time that we are to expect something very grand to be done— a mill to be erected, a canal to be cut, or something of equal importance— and then to find that it all ends in gas.— l am, &c, Acer.
